It's coming around to that time of year again; trees begin to bloom, requiring some type of trimming and the leaves that some of us didn't rake up in the fall now provide the challenge of being embedded on the new grass trying to grow beneath them. The weather is warming, at least it's supposed to be warming... Yeah I know, you that live in any part of the world not dealing with a four season change are probably laughing at me right now and shedding little pity.  The four seasons is one of the things I love about the Midwest; although as I grow older, I find myself wishing we could change the winter season to maybe a week or so right around Christmas.  But, spring is finally blooming! And with it, comes something that most everyone loves worldwide: Grilling, Barebeque, cooking on the Barbie, the big feed, the shindig, or any event that usually brings a cooking flame to the focal point of some party outside.

I love to cook and making my grilling area look professional might convince some people that I actually can. The picture above, was taken at one of the home shows in Michigan and shows a couple of great ideas on bringing organization and beauty to either your deck, and/or patio, and incorporating your grill with it. The two cabinets shown in the picture are both heavy duty 2 ft base cabinets, the one on the left is polished aluminum and the one on the right is diamond plate. The 2ft base cabinet comes with one shelf that is adjustable to whatever height you desire and is also equipped with the heavy duty 2 point lockable latch to keep your items secure. One thing I have to tell you is, like your grill, they are not completely waterproof. In a regular rain, they will keep water out; but a blowing rain might allow water to sneak in around the door.  The other thing you should know is that the diamond plate aluminum has a coating on it that keeps it from oxiding while the polished aluminum does not.  If you desire the polished look, I would advise that you find something to spray on it to protect it from the weather. 

Don't stop at the grill though.  Anywhere on your deck or patio you could add another heavy duty base cabinet (4, 6, or 8ft) for storage and to use as a countertop for food while everyone is eating outside. It eliminates the folding table that blows down in the first strong breeze and leaves food everywhere for the dogs and cats to eat. If you have the space, you might consider a overhead twin cabinet combo. I've seen a few of these cabinets equipped with a sink which takes away some of the need to travel in and out of the house while preparing food. (If you drop the spatula or the tongs, there is no five second rule...wash it for the sake of your guest).

Last on the list of many things to bring your outdoor yard to life is this 4 ft long park bench also made of sturdy diamond plate.  Set one of these babies anywhere on your deck or out in the yard for that perfect place to sit down and watch the world for a minute, or for your guest to relax while watching you cook that professional meal. 

History note: The word Barbeque is said to come from the Taino Indian's word Barbacoa, which means a "meat smoking apparatus." The word was taken to Europe and used for the stand they put the meat on but later evolved into both the stand and the food.  But let's face it; way back longer than any one of us can remember (even further than your great uncle Sid!), they would just throw meat onto hot coals to cook it. Everyone has their own way to barbeque all the way from the cooking, down to their own magical sauces and all I can say is this:  Whatever you call it, I like it and am looking forward to it this year! Fire in the hole!
