Nobody ever said racing was easy. That statement rang true a few weekends ago when Pit Products sponsored the F2000 Champion Series race team faced several challenges during the round 7 and round 8 race series events at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Bob, the driver of the Pit Products sponsored race car, has been racing for 3 years on the F2000 series after taking about a 10 year break from the track. He previously spent several years on the Indy Lights racing circuit in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Bob is not a full-time, nor professional racer. For Bob’s “day job” he works as a manufacturer’s representative for several assembly system product lines including Orbitform and Milford Rivet Machine. He covers the northeast USA from his home base in New York where he operates his business, Production Tool and Techniques.
The Pit Products crew met Bob at the Mid-Ohio track and we brought along our demonstration trailer to show the other car drivers and race fans the trailer storage cabinets and trailer organization accessories we manufacture. It was a real pleasure to set up camp for the weekend in the pit area and have the chance to meet so many quality race teams, drivers, and fans.
Bob was just getting started for the weekend when he was crashed into by another driver during the Thursday evening testing session. The incident resulted in Bob needing to replace the front and rear suspension, replace the nose piece of the car body, and to perform various fiberglass repairs to the body. Needless to say, this repair work extended late into Thursday night and ate up a good portion of Friday as well. Due to the expertise and dedication of himself and his crew (and even a little help from the Pit Products team on site), Bob was able to get back on the track in time for the official race events.
This was the first time we have been able to attend one of Bob’s races in person as the Mid-Ohio racetrack is about 4 hours from the Pit Products factory and is the nearest race venue to us. It was super to learn first-hand all that goes into preparing for and racing in the F2000 series. We were impressed by the amateur and semi-professional racers we met at the track and we certainly have a new respect for the challenges involved with fielding a successful race car.
It’ll be fun to watch Bob for the remainder of the F2000 season. We wish him the best and we sure appreciate him for choosing Pit Products as his supplier of trailer and garage storage cabinets, trailer ramps, and trailer and garage organization accessories.
